conservation initiatives by private organisations and public
bodies.
- Help IPCC Buy an acre of Irish
bog by investing in a
share certificate.
- Stop all use of peat
in your garden and do not buy peat-based products or plants grown

Free and Green Gardening Ideas
- Report illegal dumping
or damaging developments on bogs to your local authority or local
Dúchas wildlife ranger.
- Encourage neighbours,
developers and local authorities to protect the peatlands in
your county.
- Rather than draining
or filling a fen or bog under your control, seek compatible uses
involving minimal alteration.
- Avoid recreational damage
to fragile peatlands, by sticking to way-marked or approved trackways
when visiting.
- Water is life to wet
bogs and fens. Don't waste it, Don't pollute it.
- Take part in peatland
restoration work, clean up days and open bog days in your county.
- 14% of electricity is
generated from peat. Use energy wisely at home. Insulate and
reduce un-necessary use.
- Never burn turf cut from
a conservation-worthy peatland site (e.g. NHA or SAC) in your
home.
If you are able
