The Plan's Expanding Vision

To achieve the vision in the Bogs and Fens Conservation Plan, namely the conservation of a representative sample of peatlands, and the wise use of our natural peatland resources, IPCC will challenge user groups to reach a consensus on:

- which peatland sites should be interpreted

- where wind farms should be located

- how peat extraction damage should be assessed

- the future use of the industrial cutaway bogs

- the protection of peatland habitats

- the conservation of rare and endangered species

- how afforested peatlands can be restored

- how to reduce overgrazing and restore damage

- assuring the future of newly discovered bogs & fens

- how large the fen conservation target should be

The plan will contain lists and maps of the 1050 bogs and fens of conservation importance in Ireland as well as those fens discovered this century (shown opposite)

With this new Irish Bogs and Fens Conservation Plan, IPCC will be there to make sure that the bogs and fens have a fighting chance in the years to come. No one can say that we didn't shout stop.

It's our chance to play a part in a landscape drama of gargantuan proportions, a drama unfolding across the peatlands found in the watery navel of Ireland.

Please support this crucial work.
