Bog Explorer a Multi-sensory investigation of bogs

Bogs are wonderful areas to explore and are full of surprises and drama. It is worthwhile spending time undertaking some of the multisensory activities described below especially with younger groups.

1. Bog Songs
How many different sounds can you hear on the bog. Write your own bog musical.
2. Bog Punch
Sniff and scratch at natural things found on the bog to find their own unique scent. Collect them together to make your own Bog Punch. Share it with a friend.
3. Bog Rainbow
Find all the colours of the rainbow using natural bits and pieces collected on the bog. Stick them onto card to make an artist's palette.

4. Bog Treasure
Search in a turf bank or cutaway bog for a natural treasure. Fill a casket with all the treasures collected by the group.
5. Touchy Bog
Search for opposites on the bog: crispy and soggy, fluffy and scratchy, etc. Can your friends guess what they are?
6. Bog Drama
Can you find a drama happening, such as:
a spider trapping a fly in it's web
a kestrel plummeting down onto an unsuspecting animal
a caterpillar munching a plant leaf
a pond skater tugging a fly along the surface of a bog pool
a sundew trapping an ant or tiny insect on its sticky leaves
Record the details of your finds.
