Burns Bog, Canada Threatened by Cranberry Juice - Call to Action

Dated: 2nd January 1999

IPCC have just received alarming news from fellow bog conservationists at Burns Bog in Vancouver, Canada of a very serious threat to this last raised bog on the West Coast of the Americas.

Excavation has begun for a 1000 acre cranberry farm in the heart of the bog. Contractors have identified Ocean Spray (the juice company) as the potential buyer of cranberries from the development. This bog is a critical wildlife habitat for the Sand Hill Crane. Cranberry farming will devastate the bogs delicate ecology because of drainage and the use of chemical pesticides.

We need your help. Ocean Spray must be informed that Burns Bog is wild place that is entirely unsuitable for agricultural development. Ocean Spray wants to have an environmentally friendly image - you can help us remind them to live up to that image! Ask them to stop the destruction of Burns Bog immediately.

Put your views and comments in the form that you will find at Ocean Spray: http://www.oceanspray.com/contact/default.asp

To find out more about Burns Bog and its wildlife visit the Burns Bog Conservation Society pages at http://www.burnsbog.paconline.net. Thanks for your help.
