This is to declare, that

recognises the importance of peatland habitats and that the continued exploitation of moss peat threatens the survival of the wildlife of bogs in Ireland, and the archaeological archives within them. In order to play our part in protecting peatlands for future generations we agree to:

* Phase out the use of peat and peat products in all landscaping, horticulture and gardening over which we have control by 20___

* Specify that no peat is to be used in any contracts we let

* Promote the use of substitutes for peat

* Produce compost from gardens and parks over which we have control

* Support the rapid development of facilities for composting domestic refuse and sewage

* Develop policies for the protection of peatlands from damaging activities over which we have control

* Support the development and implementation of an Irish Strategy for the Conservation of Peatlands
