The Living Turf
- Ireland's Wild Boglands
PRESS RELEASE 25th January 2007
The Irish Peatland Conservation Council's Save the Bogs Campaign
- which has
championed the cause of bogland conservation in Ireland for the
last 25
years will once again be offering an evening education course
on bogs to adults in 2007. If you're interested in learning
more about the amazing
wildlife of the bog and the preserving powers of turf, why not
enroll on the Irish Peatland Conservation Council's evening course
this
spring based in the UCD Adult Education Centre, Dublin (see Editor's
Note). The course entitled Wet Wonderful and Wild Bogs and Fens
begins on Tuesday 6th February and runs for 6 weeks. Each two
hour session includes hands on classes and slide shows on the
life in the bog and on the ways the Dutch and Irish people have
worked to save the bogs. The course will also include a field
trip on Saturday 10th March to three peatland sites in the Bog
of Allen. Learn how to make a St Bridget's cross from rushes,
how to identify insects in bog pools and how to walk across the
living turf. You'll be surprised at the treasures you'll find.
Bookings through the Adult Education Centre, UCD on tel 01-7167123.
Please quote HN207. Fee Euro 190.
This evening course is just one of over 30 events organised
by the IPCC in
2007 to celebrate 25 years saving the bogs. There are open days,
bog walks, illustrated slideshows and volunteer opportunities.
