Conservation Officer
Job vacancy

The Irish Peatland Conservation Council is seeking a person to fill a
contract post as Conservation Officer within the organisation commencing in
autumn 2003.
The contract will include, but will not necessarily be limited to, the
following duties:

o handling site enquiries from the general public
o liaison with press media on site and campaign issues
o responding to planning applications and appeals
o preparing and presenting research papers, information leaflets,
articles and presentations on peatlands
o liaison on joint NGO conservation campaigns
o networking and liaison with state and national groups on peatland
issues
o representing IPCC on national committees and forums
o assisting with site surveys and restoration work
o project design and supervision of research students
o participating in IPCC outreach education programmes
o maintaining IPCC's site database of 1,000 bogs and fens in line with
Irish & EU conservation directives and legislation
o assisting with design and implementation of a Peat-free Composting &
Wildlife Garden Exhibition and roadshow
o undertake a series of workshop on composting in liaison with local
authorities
o undertake survey and prepare a conservation management plan for the Bog
of Allen Project and environs
o organise professional field studies courses and excursions

The successful applicant will have relevant research experience, excellent
inter-personal, organisational and computer skills, and a proven record to
deliver results.

The candidate will be expected to work from IPCC's head office in Capel
Street and subsequently at the Bog of Allen Centre, Lullymore, Co Kildare on
a daily basis.

Full time 18 month contract to include annual leave entitlement and an
extension option.

Contract value for 18 months Euro 36k, plus incentives and work related
expenses.
