Fenor Bog Takes Top Award For ConservationFor Release 28th April 1999 The joint project between the Irish Peatland Conservation Council and Fenor Bog Group (Móin Fhionnúrach Development Association) won the top Ford conservation award in Ireland on the 27th April 1999. The award of £5,000, plus a specially commissioned trophy will be used to complete the land purchase of Fenor Bog, Co. Waterford and conduct a wildlife survey of the site during this summer. As national winners the IPCC and Fenor Bog Group will represent Ireland at the Ford Conservation Awards Grand Prix in Aachen Germany in June where they will compete for a share of the $150,000 prize fund. Since the start of the project, Fenor Bog has captured the imagination of Irish people living at home and abroad. Through their generous donations the future of this 32 acre fen will be secured. One of only 13 fens left in Waterford the site boasts over 90 species of flora, fauna and birds and is a special part of Ireland's natural heritage. The opportunity to conserve the site was the vision of the local community of just 140 families and shows the success that can be achieved when a local community backs conservation projects. IPCC are proud to be in partnership with the Móin Fhionnúrach Development Association on this project. IPCC - Action for Bogs - Ag caomhnú na bportach ends
