Bogland safari for teachersFor Release 8th June 1999 18 teachers from Galway and Conamara will participate on a special training course on bogs, to be held at the Anno Sancto Hotel, Threadneedle Road, Galway on Saturday next, the 12th June 1999. The one day course will include a field trip to Cloona bog, off the Tuam road, Galway. This is an area of cutaway bog which has a rich variety of wildlife with up to 200 species of plant, animal and bird present in the drains, peat banks, pools, lawns, ridges and depressions created by turf cutting over the years. The aim of the course is to provide teachers with the resources and expertise they need to introduce bog studies to their students. The course is funded by the Department of Education In-Career Development Unit and the European Social Fund.
