Garden Tips and Peat free Composting Ideas on IPCC website

For release 19 August 2002

With summer drawing to a close - it will soon be time to tidy the garden,
collect autumn leaves and plan for the new gardening year ahead.

This year why not compost all that garden green waste in a compost heap or
compost cone; collect those leaves and make your very own leaf mould and
next year you can look forward to a Peat-free environmentally friendly
garden that will be the envy of your friends.

To learn more about composting and how to save yourself money, help protect
the environment and of course leave peat in the bogs where wildlife needs it
- all you need to do is check out some of the great new additions to IPCC
Peat-free Garden Campaign web pages designed for green gardeners. Some of
the material on the pages will help you:

* Learn why bogs are so important in our new range of factsheets on bogs,
their wildlife, plants and ecology

* Learn how to make your own garden or household greenwaste compost - making
compost in a heap, in a compost cone, or in a worm bin or make leaf mould in
a simple wire cage

* Compost your own garden and household waste helps to save the environment,
cuts down on materials going into dumps and saves you money as you wont have
to buy peat again!

* Find out how you can help support IPCC's Peat-free Garden Campaign - by
signing your very own Peat-free charter and pledging never to use peat again

* And even if all the composting isn't your cup of tea learn how to go
peat-free in the garden by buying only peat free soil improvers, mulches and
composts from the list of 18 alternatives now on the market

These are just some of the great peat-free garden information pages
available on www.ipcc.ie - so go on and check it out!

And remember it's still not to late to make 2002 the year you go Peat-free
in your garden.
