TRAINING COURSE IN LIMERICK

For immediate release 11 October 1996

This week the Irish Peatland Conservation Council (see Editors Note 1) will be conducting a special two day training course for instructors from education centres throughout Ireland focusing on bogs and peat issues.

The residential course, based at Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre and taking in visits to Ballylanders Bog, the Ballyhoura Hills and Kilcolman Wildfowl Refuge, will involve indoor and outdoor activities focusing on bogs, including model making, scientific investigations and experiments and debating environmental issues.

Twenty instructors are attending the course from both the North and Republic of Ireland. As Dr. O'Connell, the IPCC Education Officer comments "I hope that this course will provide instructors with the expertise they need to stimulate a greater awareness of the heritage of the bogs of Limerick".

This training initiative is being sponsored by the British Ecological Society, The Department of Environment, Northern Ireland and the IPCC's Environmental Education Foundation.
