Surfing the Bogs of IrelandFor release 29th January 1999 The Irish Peatland Conservation Council has re-launched its web site at http://indigo.ie/~ipcc with many new sections and features aimed at students and the general public who want to learn more about our rare and endangered bogland heritage. New items to look out for include The Wild Beauty of Bogs Tour. When you embark upon this journey you will be plunged into the weird and wonderful world of bogs both above and below the surface. There is so much more to a bog than first meets the eye - from carnivorous plants to bog-bodies. By clicking on the option buttons this fascinating habitat will open up before your very eyes and you are guaranteed to gasp with surprise as the wonder of the bogs is revealed. Other new topics included on the web pages is information on buried bog wood, wind farm developments, sustainable management practices for boglands and the damage caused to the bogs surface as a result of trampling by visitors. Regular features such as current campaigns, recent surveys, factsheets, press releases, where to visit bogs, bogs which have been conserved and how to buy an acre of bog can all be accessed on our web site. For those interested in becoming more active in helping to save bogs there are lots of ideas on how to get involved in fundraising and campaign work. So, if bog-trotting is not your cup of tea but you would like to learn about the value and wonder of boglands then why not visit the IPCC web site and indulge in a spot of web surfing over the bogs of Ireland.
