Bogs burst onto the World Wide Web

For immediate release 15 July 1996

Surfers of the Internet can find out all about the Save the Bogs Campaign. The Irish Peatland Conservation Council (see editor's note 1) has just launched its very first World Wide Web site (see editor's note 2) which has been sponsored by Indigo.

As Dr. Peter Foss, Director of the IPCC explained "We feel it is crucial that anyone can have up to date information on Ireland's longest running environmental campaign - the Save the Bogs Campaign. We already get numerous requests for information by phone, fax or post - this new medium will allow anyone with access to a computer around the world make almost instantaneous contact with us. It is a very exciting development".

IPCC also hope the service which contains a lot of information on bogs, gardening and going peat free, will find favour with teachers and students undertaking school projects. Not only will students be able to access information - but interactive facilities will allow specific queries to be sent to IPCC by e-mail. "And as if that wasn't enough - by accessing the information over the Internet people will be helping to reduce their impact on the environment - as IPCC won't have to send as much printed paper information through the post!" says Dr Foss.

To visit the web site and learn more about bogs, the latest on IPCC campaigns, boglands to visit, educational resources, join up for a conservation workcamp, book a teacher training course, request a merchandise catalogue, make a donation to purchase a threatened bog and how to join or support the Save the Bogs Campaign go to http://indigo.ie/~ipcc or e-mail us on ipcc@indigo.ie - IPCC are just waiting to hear from you!
