IPCC Bogland Reserve Network
IPCC's mission is to see a representative sample of peatlands
conserved in Ireland for future generations to enjoy and benefit
from, to maintain their biodiversity and to protect the living
ecosystem that bogs and fens represent.
To achieve this goal we have been campaigning since 1982 to
ensure that government, national agencies, local authorities,
community groups, land owners and all interested parties are
made aware of the value of our peatlands, and are encouraged
to take measures to protect them.
We have encouraged the peat industry to take a responsible
approach to peatland conservation, we have worked with Government
and the European Union to provide funds to purchase sites, we
have encouraged community groups throughout Ireland to protect
bogs in their locality and finally, we have purchased bogs for
conservation, and raised funds to manage them with the support
of IPCC's Friends of the Bogs supporters scheme.
If you would like
to help the appeal to buy an acre of Irish Bog for conservation,
please click here to obtain a donation form.
To learn more about one of IPCC reserves, select one of the
bogs below and learn more about where they are, how to visit,
the wildlife and habitats that occur on them and the management
work we have undertaken.
In addition to owning and managing peatland sites for conservation
the IPCC run the Bog of Allen Nature Centre, a focus for conservation,
education and research into peatlands in Ireland and worldwide.
