Save Stamps & Save Bogs

IPCC turn used stamps into money to help our work of saving Irish bogs. Valuable stamps that are spotted are sold separately, but even perfectly ordinary stamps are welcome. They get made up into packs for sale in IPCC's Enviro Shop or are sold in bulk in Ireland to stamp dealers. Last year Euro 7,000 worth of stamps were sold for IPCC.

If you can help us, please put your stamps into an envelope and send them to: IPCC, Lullymore, Rathangan, Co. Kildare. There's no need to lift them off the paper, but if you have time to trim them leaving a 1cm margin, we'd be delighted.

And its not just stamps we need. We can also make use of stamp collections, first day covers, old & foreign coins and bank notes, phone or call cards, post cards, petrol vouchers, supermarket club points, special offer labels, bus ticket change receipts and cap badges.

E-mail us here at bogs@ipcc.ie if you're not sure if we take it!

We are often asked what we do with the stamps, call cards, coins,
postcards.... that we collect.

Well the Irish Peatland Conservation Council collect a variety of items to raise
funds or goods to help support the Save the Bogs Campaign. As a charitable
group this is an important source of income for us.

With the help of volunteers we do the following with these collected items:

Postage Stamps (and associated philatelic stuff) we sort into different
categories (Irish Commemoratives; Irish Definitives; World; and UK
Commemoratives and Definitives), they get trimmed to leave a 1 cm margin
around the edge and we then sell them to Irish and international stamp dealers
or as stamp collectors packs in the shop. Last year alone we received 83,000 grams
of stamps from our supporters and the general public.

Used telephone cards are also sold on to collectors.

Postcards we sort into categories and sell to postcard collectors. We are
particularly interested in John Hinde cards and old postcards. Some of the
more general and modern cards we recycle with stickers on back for use here
in the office when writing to supporters.

Old coins and bank notes and foreign money we either try and exchange for
Irish pounds if the currency is still valid or offer older coins to collectors.

Bus change tickets we collect are taken to CIE to claim refunds.

Vouchers and supermarket points we exchange for goods to sell at our Annual
Save the Bogs Sales of Work.

Volunteers are a very important part of this whole process. Without their help in cutting and sorting we would find it very difficult to do all the work. So their input is crucial and we in case you are interested we are always looking for extra pairs of willing hands!
