IPCC will be facilitating a 5 week evening class from 7-9pm at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, Co. Kildare. The evening class entitled the 'Bogs and Fens of Ireland' will explore all aspects of Irish peatlands from their formation through to their wildlife.

Introduction to the Habitats of Ireland

 30th January

(10 weeks)

 This course will be held from 7-9pm at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, Co. Kildare. Throughout the 10 weeks a variety of Irish habitats and their wildlife will be explored including wetlands, grasslands, woodlands and coastal habitats. Cost 100 Euro.

Introduction to Habitat Management Techniques  16th May This full day course includes recording grid references and GPS readings, abiotic factors, pond dipping, butterfly identification, bird identification, habitat classification and developing a management plan 9.15m-4.30pm

Raised Bog Plants 18th May Introduction to the he variety of adaptations bogland plants have for surviving in a waterlogged and nutrient poor environment will be followed by a visit to an intact raised bog to identify the plants in the field. 9.30am-1pm

 Raised Bog Restoration Workshops May and June (exact dates to be decided) Four workshops taking place in venues in Kildare, Offaly, Roscommon and Meath. The aim to teach how to rewet bogs by blocking drains and how to restore active peat forming vegetation on raised bogs using Canadian Sphagnum cultivation techniques.

Introduction to the Habitats of Ireland developing Literacy & Numeracy' Skills  2nd-6th July This week long primary teacher course is curriculum focused and introduces to teaching friends the variety of habitats in Ireland, suggestions for student activities to improve student literacy and numeracy skills. Bookings through Kildare Education Centre from May 2012. Bookings not yet being taken
 Sphagnum Moss Identification  13th September Sphagnum Moss Identification workshop. In liaison with the National Biodiversity Data Centre Dr. Catherine OConnell will deliver this introductory course on Sphagnum moss at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre.

All of these workshops are suitable for beginnners. Participants should wear warm cloths and bring rain coats and strong footwear for the field trips included in some courses.
