AFRICA

In Africa bogs are relatively rare, they cover an area of 58,405 km². African peatlands are classified into five types; blanket bogs, raised bogs, valley peatlands, fens and reed swamps. The major peatland areas are the highlands of Burundi, Rwanda, South Africa, southwestern Uganda, the highland area of Zaire and the Aberdane Range and the Cherangani Hills in western Kenya.

To visit the peatlands of Africa just click on the country you want to visit from the list on the left hand side.

If you have pictures that you took of peatlands from a country not shown in our tour that you would like to submit - why not e-mail them to Peter Foss at info@ipcc.ie - along with a caption. I'll consider adding them to our collection of great peatland pictures.
