Germany

In Germany peatlands originally covered an area of about 14,200 km². Today it is estimated that the peatland area has reduced to just 10% of the original. The peatlands in Germany have been classified into two types raised bog and fen. 95% of the fens and 58% of raised bog are used for agriculture.
