Germany
In Germany peatlands originally covered an
area of about 14,200 km². Today it is estimated that the
peatland area has reduced to just 10% of the original. The peatlands
in Germany have been classified into two types raised bog and
fen. 95% of the fens and 58% of raised bog are used for agriculture.
