Netherlands
The original area of peatlands in The Netherlands
has been estimated at 250,000 ha. Now only some 8,000ha of drained
and cut-over peatland remains. What remains of the peatlands can
be divided into raised bog and fen. All of the remaining peatlands
are nature reserves and have undergone extensive restoration work.
