Norway
The original area of peatland in Norway was
estimated at 30,000 km². Approximately 20,300 km² of
peatland is still relatively undisturbed. There is no complete
survey on peatland as yet for the country, but sloping and flat
poor to rich fens, raised bogs, mixed mires and blanket bogs have
been identified. The first peatland reserve was established in
1976 and at present 1,000 km², of peatland occurs in protected
areas.
