South Africa
Peat accumulation in South Africa started in
some areas after the ice age. Many mires in South Africa occur
at altitudes over 1,000 meters. Most of South Africas mires occur
in the temperate climatic zone, though high altitude range means
that climate can vary considerably over a short distance. Fuel
peat and horticultural peat is produced from some South African
peatlands.
