Composting

IPCC promotes composting of household and garden waste as part of our peat-free gardening campaign. By following the links from this page you can find out how to successfully compost organic waste in your home, school or community. You can compost garden and kitchen waste using a wormery, a heap, a cone or a bin. You can make leaf mould from leaves collected in the garden. Making compost is a great way to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, it helps reduce our dependency on peat and it provides you with compost for free which will enrich your garden soil.

Watch the IPCC DIY Home Composting Video and learn how to create a wonderful garden compost and at the same time save Irish bogs.
